Targets for the Chiefs’ First Round Pick – Continued

Byron Murphy, Cornerback (Washington)

In version one of my Chiefs’ Draft Board, I compared Murphy to a more disciplined version of Marcus Peters. Murphy will be a legit number one cornerback in the NFL. He was my original crush for the Chiefs first draft selection, but I don’t have a lot of faith in him being available at pick 29 anymore.

With Greedy Williams sliding, that means Murphy will likely rise a little, which will likely move him out of the Chiefs’ reach. If he is available at 29 though, the Chiefs should definitely snatch him.

Deandre Baker, Cornerback (Georgia)

If Byron Murphy was my original draft crush, Deandre Baker is my new draft crush. Baker is physical and has great coverage and ball skills. His only real knock is his speed, but he clocked a very respectable 4.52 in the 40 at the combine.

For some perspective, Baker’s 40 time was faster than Marcus Peters‘ and he was the Chiefs’ 18th overall selection in 2015. Peters turned out to be a pretty respectable cornerback in the NFL. Baker has no real concerns and that locks him in as a legitimate top three cornerback in this draft and as a player who could help the Chiefs significantly next season.
