Kansas City Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes sees Browns as competition in 2019
The Kansas City Chiefs MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes did an interview with Men’s Health and made it clear that he knows the Chiefs have their work cut out for them in the 2019 season.
In this interview, Patrick Mahomes discussed fellow competition for the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC, wanting to be better than 2018 (dude – you won MVP!), and building arm strength.
Of course, the part everyone is fixating on is that Mahomes mentioned the Cleveland Browns as being a contender for the 2019 season. Yes, the same Cleveland Browns that went 0-16 two seasons ago and have been a dumpster fire of an organization. Those Browns.
The Browns made a splash in free agency, trading for former Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr, who will be paired up with Jarvis Landry. The two will catch passes from quarterback Baker Mayfield, who had a nice rookie campaign last year.

"“He (Odell) is such a talented player, someone who has a lot of success in the NFL,” Mahomes says. “For the Browns to make all those moves and get all those players, I know it’s an exciting time for Cleveland.”"
Mahomes even went so far as to say he could see his squad playing the Browns in the playoffs.
Let’s slow it down here, okay? Yes, the Browns have a good roster, but that doesn’t always translate to wins. Remember the 2011 Eagles dream team? Or when the Giants loaded up a few years ago and stunk on the field? The Browns need to show they can make the playoffs first and then we can discuss the Chiefs playing them in the postseason.
As much as everyone DOESN’T want to hear this, it’s still the New England Patriots who run the AFC. Mahomes should know that too, as they handed him two of the five losses his team had last season. Sorry for the reminder.
Chiefs Kingdom already loves Patrick Mahomes, but the fact that 5,000+ yards and 50 touchdowns wasn’t good enough for him in his first year as a starter should make everyone else love this kid too. He’s continuing to work hard this offseason to be even better than he was in 2018, a year in which he won the MVP award.
"“When you come off your first year in the NFL, playing 20-something games if you count preseason and playoffs, your body is pretty beat down,” he says. “So, I’ve really taken great strides in my nutrition, tried to eat the healthiest I could eat, and get enough rest, but at the same time, build my body back.”"
How can anyone (other than fans of other AFC West teams) dislike this guy? He’s only going to get better as the years go on and that should get Kansas City Chiefs fans very, very excited.
