The Kansas City Chiefs have made moves in free agency this season, but most have come on defense. What if, however, the Chiefs went with the best tight end on the market and added Jared Cook to their already lethal offense?

Before we dive into this post, I should note that I’m well-aware Jared Cook signing with the Kansas City Chiefs is a pipe dream. He’s been quoted as being interested in signing with the New Orleans Saints and catching passes from Drew Brees. Hard to blame anyone for wanting to do that.

Let’s put the buzz aside though and just imagine Cook did choose to sign with the Chiefs. This offense would be even more unstoppable and the tight end position would be impossible to bring down.

Cook has been one of the best tight ends in the league over recent years. That’s something he and current Chiefs starter Travis Kelce have in common. Could you imagine them working together? Holy moly that’d be fun.

Cook has spent the last two seasons with division rival Oakland and was one of their few big time playmakers on offense. Last year, Cook hauled in 68 receptions for 896 yards and six touchdowns. He had four games in which he went for over 100 yards, one of which came against the Chiefs.

The Chiefs need a tight end to backup, or suit up alongside, Kelce and while Cook coming to KC is a farfetched idea, it is fun to think about. He beat up the Chiefs secondary while he was with the Raiders and it’d be nice to be able to root for him doing it to other teams in 2019.

More than likely, however, the Chiefs will wait until the draft to address their vacancy at tight end. This is a strong tight end draft class and it’d be a much cheaper option than bringing someone like Cook in. With Cook being the best name on the tight end market, he wouldn’t come cheap, even if he is 31 years old.

Kelce is already a force to bring down (it’s comical watching defenders try to tackle him) and Cook has shown he’s tough to tackle also. The two could function in a similar fashion to how the Patriots offense was with two stealthy tight ends in the early 2010s. They overpowered opposing defenses and the Chiefs can use all of the playmakers they can get.

So while this is merely a figment of my imagination, Patrick Mahomes having both Travis Kelce and Jared Cook as his tight ends would be a lot of fun to watch.
