Kansas City Chiefs fans might have thought it’d be cool to see Le’Veon Bell join their already high-powered offense. That’s not going to happen though.

While some might think that adding Le’Veon Bell would put the Kansas City Chiefs‘ offense over the top, it’s not going to happen. Bell is not only too expensive, but the Chiefs also rewarded Damien Williams with a two-year extension after his efforts last season.

Bell is an elusive back with the ability to torment defenses (he destroyed the Chiefs defense both through the air and on the ground over the years), but give up on that dream, Chiefs Kingdom. As Regina George said about the term fetch, “It’s not going to happen.”

According to Matt Verderame of FanSided, there’s no interest from the Chiefs when it comes to signing Bell.

This isn’t crazy whatsoever. Yes, Bell is a tremendous back with the ability to take over games all on his own (see basically every time the Steelers played the Chiefs during his time there), but the running back position has changed.

More from Chiefs Free Agency

No more do teams overspend on running backs. It’s become evident that quality running backs can be found in the later rounds of the draft or even can be signed as undrafted free agents. The Chiefs extended Williams after he filled in for the two running backs ahead of him on the depth chart and it was well-earned.

The Chiefs had one of the best offenses in the league last year and it would have been downright unfair to have Le’Veon Bell in that system. That would have been the most lethal offense potentially ever.

Some team is going to pay for Bell’s services, but it won’t be the Kansas City Chiefs. They already have cap issues due to some bad contracts given out over the years and that’s made it hard for them to do much of anything in free agency.

Bell sat out all of 2018 because he wanted less wear and tear on his body, but could that come back to bite him in the butt? Sitting out an entire season of football could be costly for the dominant running back, but we’ve seen that when he’s at his best, he’s damn near unstoppable.

The Chiefs are going to roll with Damien Williams as their starter in the backfield with Darryl Williams sitting behind him. They also haven’t ruled out bringing Charcandrick West back either, per Verderame.

dark. Next. Six Potential Tight Ends to Target in Free Agency

Le’Veon Bell won’t be playing for the Kansas City Chiefs next year, but as long as he’s not playing in their division, fans won’t be too devastated about not signing him.
