Former Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt is joining the Cleveland Browns. The team announced the move on Monday afternoon.

The Kansas City Chiefs did what they felt was best in late November and released running back Kareem Hunt after a controversial video surfaced. Now, Hunt is being given a second chance with a new team.

That team is the Cleveland Browns, who now have quite the crowded backfield.

There’s still no word on what Hunt’s suspension will look like, but it wouldn’t be shocking at all if he missed the first few months of the season as a result. It all just depends on what Roger Goodell decides to make the suspension.

John Dorsey was the Chiefs general manager when the team drafted Hunt in the third round in 2017, which makes sense why the Browns made this move. Dorsey is the GM there now and has Browns fans optimistic for the first time in a long time.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Hunt is also from Ohio, playing his college football at Toledo. That probably didn’t have as much to do with it as Dorsey being the GM, however.

Cleveland also has Nick Chubb and Duke Johnson in their backfield and traded Carlos Hyde midseason to the Jaguars. Perhaps bringing in Hunt is a sign that they’ll be trading one of their other running backs, but again, we’re not sure of what his suspension will look like. They might end up needing all three of these running backs until the suspension has been granted.

Running back isn’t the position that it used to be and the Chiefs figured that out when Damien Williams stepped in and did fine in the starting role. So much so that he was given a two-year extension by Kansas City. He did a nice job and the Chiefs should add another running back via the draft to pair with Williams and 2018 rookie Darryl Williams.

At the end of the day, the situation with Kareem Hunt wasn’t ideal, but the Chiefs have moved on. Hopefully things work out better for him in Cleveland and both sides can move on completely.
