ROUND 3 – PICK 28 (92ND OVERALL)

After spending their first three draft choices on defensive players, the Kansas City Chiefs finally address the offensive side of the ball in the third round. They do so by selecting Keenen Brown out of Texas State.

Brown only spent one season at Texas State, as he was a member of Oklahoma State’s team for several years prior. Brown transferred to Texas State for the 2018 season and hauled in 51 catches for 577 yards and five touchdowns. He also had two rushing touchdowns.

The Chiefs simply don’t have depth at tight end behind Travis Kelce. Demetrius Harris will likely not be re-signed and aside from him, the Chiefs had a pair of rookies on their roster this past season, neither of whom caught a pass.

Brown, standing at 6’3″ and 250 pounds, provides a giant target for Patrick Mahomes. His stats might not have been as great at a bigger school, but the size alone makes Keenen Brown an appealing tight end for the Chiefs.

Bringing Brown in could open things up for Kelce more, as he wouldn’t have to be used as much in the blocking aspect of things. Tight ends are valuable and while the Chiefs have the best one in the league, they need depth in case something were to happen to Kelce (knock on wood).
