Kansas City Chiefs: Super Bowl not appealing at all this year

The Kansas City Chiefs fell just short of making it to this year’s Super Bowl. That’s bad enough, but the two teams playing in football’s biggest game don’t make the situation any better.

Call me a crybaby if you want to, but I have no desire to watch this year’s Super Bowl. The Kansas City Chiefs were oh so close to making it for the first time in my life and that’s painful enough to think about.

The team that beat them is in the Super Bowl every year it feels like, and it’s gotten really old. It’s tiring seeing the Patriots play on the biggest stage every single year and the fact that they knocked off our beloved Chiefs and advanced to their third straight Super Bowl really irritates me.

To make matters worse, the team on the other side of the field is just as annoying, but for different reasons. The Los Angeles Rams have an exciting offense to watch, yes, but they don’t even deserve to be in the Super Bowl.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

We all saw the no-call in the NFC Championship Game that, were it called, would have given the Saints a first and goal. They’d have ran the clock out, kicked a chip-shot field goal, and advanced to the Super Bowl.

Instead, we get the overly cocky Rams, who are full of players who are unlikable. If it were the Patriots vs Saints in the Super Bowl, at least we could all agree that Drew Brees is a cool guy and seeing him win his second title would have been cool.

Instead, we get an over the top Rams team against the Patriots, who are there every year. At least when the Broncos were in the Super Bowl a few years ago, I could actively root against them. I want to actively root against both of these teams, so what’s the point of watching?

Some might say, “Well, then watch for the commercials!” When was the last time Super Bowl commercials were actually funny? Plus, we can watch all of them now on YouTube BEFORE the game even takes place. That aspect isn’t as special anymore.

Others might point to the half time show, but Maroon 5 is terrible. Had this been a year where Lady GaGa or Katy Perry were performing, I’d have tuned in for the half time special, but Maroon 5 hasn’t been good since their first album, and even that’s a stretch.

To those of you who plan to watch the Super Bowl, are you watching because it’s the Super Bowl or does something about it grab you? I have no desire to watch two teams I dislike, a bad half time act, and commercials that I can watch ahead of time.

Count me out for Super Bowl 53.
