Who surprised you the most?

More from Kansas City Chiefs

There were certainly many great potential candidates that could have made this list, such as young safety Jordan Lucas, cornerback Charvarius Ward or a few key offensive linemen (Austin Reiter at center, perhaps?).

However, Patrick Mahomes and Damien Williams stepped up in roles that needed immediate filling and brought consistent production to an explosively offensive-focused team. While we all had high hopes for Mahomes, very few people would have realistically picked him to win the MVP back in August because we didn’t know what he was capable of.

Chris Jones, Dee Ford, and Steven Nelson finally broke out from previously mediocre careers in 2018 and became key defensive contributors on a team that needed it badly. That made them surprising candidates.
