Kansas City Chiefs: Three players to extend in 2019 offseason
CHIEFS TO EXTEND – Chris Jones, Defensive Lineman
I think this is pretty much a no-brainer for Brett Veach and the Chiefs moving forward. Talk about hitting big time in the second round, as the third year player has quickly evolved into one of the most dominant defensive linemen in all of the NFL.
Chris Jones finished his 2018 campaign with 14.5 sacks, finishing only second to Rams All-Pro Aaron Donald for most from the defensive tackle position. He also reached an NFL Milestone by recording at least one sack in 12 consecutive games. To put it in laymans terms: He bout to get paid, SON!
Chris Jones is a crucial piece for this Chiefs defense moving forward and he should be priority number one this off season for Veach.
With the recent hiring of defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, the Chiefs need to make sure he inherits some elite level talent. Jones is a guy who can literally play anywhere along the front of a 4-3 scheme that Spagnuolo is known for running.
The contract for Jones will obviously be a high number forcing them to make tough decisions with other players, but the Chiefs need to make sure they stay ahead on this one rather than wait like they have in the past.
Get. This. Done.
