The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off their most successful season in 25 years and with that comes big decisions like who to move on from, and who to bring back.

Kansas City Chiefs general manager, Brett Veach inherited somewhat of a mess of a cap situation when he was chosen to replace former general manager John Dorsey.

Say what you want about Dorsey’s strengths, but ultimately where he failed was his inability to stay ahead of the curve with big name contracts. He was always a year too late when it came time to extend guys like Eric Berry and Justin Houston.

Rather then being ahead of the curve, Dorsey allowed those two to get into the final years of their deal and both of them had career years, and putting the Chiefs in a peculiar position.

Brett Veach hasn’t exactly been perfect either to this point.

His signings of wide receiver Sammy Watkins and linebacker Anthony Hitchens to big free agent deals have seen mixed results to put it lightly. This offseason is incredibly huge for Veach, as he is going to be tasked with big decision after big decision all the way up until training camp in July.

If there is anything that Veach can learn from his former boss, it’s that getting contract extensions done a year early rather than late, can lead to better cap situations in the future and securing your young assets.

So with all this said, lets take a look at four players the Chiefs should look to extend in 2019.
