It seems obvious that Duffy, Keller, Kennedy, and Junis will be four of the five starters, but that last spot is up for grabs. Lopez is the favorite, but Fillmyer sweeping in and grabbing that five spot wouldn’t be surprising at all.

The other guys mentioned are long-shots, but with how often pitchers get injured (especially Duffy and Kennedy), they’ll get chances to make a few starts here and there. I’m most intrigued to see if Sam McWilliams or Josh Staumont gets a chance in the first half of the year.

The second half of the season, things become more wide open. For one, players get traded in July, so that opens up vacancies. Also, with the Royals being a rebuilding team, they’re going to hopefully give the younger guys some legit shots to prove they can help the club in the long run.

I didn’t mention Eric Skoglund because he’ll be serving an 80-game suspension to start the year. Sure, when he comes back he will have a legitimate chance to make it, but he will not be in that five-man rotation in March and that’s a fact.
