The 2018 rookie class left a lot to be desired with the defense being the ultimate downfall of the season.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

No one can expect a rookie class to turn an entire defense into one of the league’s best, but at least an improvement shouldn’t be too much to ask for. While there were bright spots with these rookies, the emphasis on defense was a bit of a letdown.

There were certainly promising moments for most of these rookies, but for the most part, no one really wowed the fan base. We didn’t get to see much from Armani Watts, but hopefully he can stay healthy in the coming years.

Tremon Smith got my highest grade and that’s well-earned. He was a great contributor on special teams and the Chiefs need that kind of talent there to keep it as one of the best units in the league.

Next season will open a new chapter with coaching changes on the defensive side of the ball. Hopefully, Chiefs Kingdom will see a significant improvement from these players in year two. In the case that these improvements do happen, the 2019 Chiefs will be unstoppable.
