The NFL announced their 2019 London games and included in that bunch is the annual Mexico City game. The Kansas City Chiefs will be the visiting team for that one when they play the Los Angeles Chargers.
This past season, the NFL wanted the Kansas City Chiefs to play the Los Angeles Rams in Mexico City for a Monday Night Football game. It didn’t end up happening unfortunately, as the field conditions were so bad that the game was moved to Los Angeles (who was the home team) due to player safety.
It appears that the NFL really wants the Chiefs to play in Mexico City, however, as they’ve released their teams for the games held outside of the U.S.
The Chiefs are in that group facing the Chargers, who will be the home team, in Mexico City. As for the London games, it’ll be the Panthers at Bucs, Bears at Raiders, Texans at Jaguars, and Bengals at Rams. The Chiefs were a host team in London during the 2015 season and it did not go over well with fans, so at least they’re the visiting team for this one.

Fans are okay with playing games outside of the country, but it’s definitely preferred to be the visiting team so you don’t have to give up a home game. That 2015 season saw the Chiefs give up a home game and we’re still unsure if they were ever rewarded for that gesture.

Picking the Chargers as a host team for the Mexico City game makes sense because they have no home field advantage. The move to Los Angeles hasn’t been great for the Chargers, as they’re currently playing in a soccer stadium. More often than not, that soccer stadium is packed with the opposing team’s fans.
Kansas City and Los Angeles both went 12-4 this past season with the Chiefs ultimately winning the AFC West and advancing further in the playoffs. Both had their seasons ended by the New England Patriots.
We’ll all be looking forward to the two games between the Chiefs and Chargers next season and if this game is in Mexico City, it won’t be crazy if it winds up in primetime like last year’s was. The Chiefs and Chargers is also an enticing match-up so it probably will be on Monday Night Football, or because it’s a divisional match-up, maybe it’s a Thursday Night Football battle.
