The Kansas City Chiefs are hosting the AFC Championship Game this weekend against the Patriots. The forecast calls for an arctic blast to hit the metro area. Does this affect either team?

Kansas City Chiefs fans are used to rough weather this time of year, but the forecast for Sunday evening’s game against the Patriots is being described as an “arctic blast”. This means it’s going to be bitterly cold at Arrowhead Stadium for the biggest game there in 25 years.

While some might think the nasty weather favors the Chiefs, it might not. It doesn’t necessarily favor the Patriots either though.

For those who listen to Colin Cowherd’s show, you’ll have heard his thoughts on the nasty weather rolling through Kansas City this weekend. Cowherd believes that the cold weather favors the Patriots because it’ll quiet the Chiefs crowd down (LOL) and limit them in the passing game.

The Patriots are used to playing in the cold, just like the Chiefs are, so neither team is going to be bothered by the chilly weather. New England was probably going to focus more on running the ball anyway due to that being what they’re best at and the Chiefs defense being weak against the run.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

With this being the first ever AFC Championship Game played at Arrowhead Stadium, the notion that the fans are going to be sitting down, huddling to stay warm, and not shouting their tails off is ridiculous. Chiefs fans are going to be as loud as they ever have been because they know if their team wins this game, they’re representing the AFC in the freaking Super Bowl.

While the Chiefs prefer to make things happen through the air, this same theory was said about them last week and look at the final score. All three Chiefs touchdowns came via the run game and Patrick Mahomes didn’t throw for a single touchdown. The Chiefs can play that ground game too and they can do it in a variety of ways, just like the Patriots can.

The cold weather will factor into this game, but whether it’s an advantage or disadvantage for the Kansas City Chiefs remains to be seen. The Chiefs played in a cold game last week and did just fine, so I’m not counting them or the fan base out this weekend.

What do you think, Chiefs Kingdom? Will the arctic blast affect either team in a negative way?
