The Kansas City Chiefs played to their seed and as a result, will host the first ever AFC Championship Game at Arrowhead Stadium. The opposition will be the New England Patriots, who are headed to their eighth straight title game.
We officially know next week’s AFC Championship Game match-up and it’ll be the Kansas City Chiefs vs the New England Patriots. The Chiefs took care of business against the sixth seeded Colts with a 31-13 win while the Patriots took the fifth seeded Chargers to the woodshed and won 41-28 in Foxborough.
All season long, we’d heard about how the Los Angeles Chargers were a different unit this year, but they got crushed by the Patriots. People should know not to doubt the New England Patriots and that’s what I’ll reiterate to people right now.
Yes, the Chiefs have the better record and will have home field advantage as a result. The Patriots are the Patriots though. By that, I mean they’ve been on quite the run during the Bill Belichick and Tom Brady era, winning five Super Bowls and making it to eight total, looking to make it nine.

The Chiefs and Patriots met up in week six of the regular season in Foxborough and it was on Sunday Night Football. New England barely won with a last second field goal and the Chiefs really struggled to get anything done offensively in the first half.
Had Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs gotten things together earlier, that game ends with a KC victory more than likely. It’ll be a different tune at Arrowhead next weekend, as the Chiefs will be the home team and the offense has come out swinging in nearly all of their games since then.
We haven’t seen Brady at Arrowhead in four years with the last time coming in 2014. It was a Monday Night Football game and the Chiefs absolutely dominated Brady and the Pats. He ended up getting benched as a matter of fact.
While it’d be great to see a similar result next weekend, the stakes are completely different this time around. This isn’t a regular season game, it’s a game that decides who represents the AFC in the Super Bowl.
The Chiefs haven’t been in this position since 1994 and this team is different from the ones we’ve watched in years past. The Patriots have been abysmal on the road this year, going 3-5 away from Foxborough. Per the CBS broadcast, the last time the Patriots won an AFC Championship Game on the road was in 2006 against the Chargers.
Chiefs fans have to love those odds.
The Kansas City Chiefs have every opportunity to make it to the Super Bowl, but in order to get there, they’ll have to beat the NFL’s best dynasty next weekend. Let’s get wild, Chiefs Kingdom.
