The Kansas City Chiefs finally got over the playoff hump, taking down the Colts on Saturday evening to the tune of 31-13. It was the Chiefs’ first home playoff win since the 1993 season.

THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS ARE GOING TO THE AFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME! Those are words that Chiefs Kingdom has been waiting to hear for a long, long time and we can finally utter them after the Chiefs knocked off the sixth seeded Colts on Saturday in the AFC Divisional Round.

The Chiefs got off to a 17-0 start and the only trip-up they had in the first half was a blocked punt that resulted in a touchdown for the Colts. KC led 24-7 at the half after Colts kickers Adam Vinatieri missed the field goal attempt right before half time.

Speaking of that missed kick, Vinatieri also missed an extra point in the fourth quarter. Kicking woes had been linked to Chiefs/Colts playoff match-ups over the years, but for once, it wasn’t the Chiefs on the wrong side of that one. Was the curse finally reversed?

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Patrick Mahomes was masterful in his first ever playoff start, going 27 of 41 for 278 yards. He didn’t have any touchdowns or interceptions, but did have a rushing score with his legs. The fact that this team put up 31 points without Mahomes even throwing one into the end zone should scare opposing defenses left in the playoffs.

Oh yeah, while we’re discussing defenses, let’s give the Chiefs D a big round of applause because they were freaking fantastic! They allowed just six points on the evening (the other seven points were given up by the special teams) and made Andrew Luck‘s life a living hell all evening long.

I’ve been especially hard on the defense all season long because well… I had a reason to be tough on them. They weren’t very good. But in this playoff game, under the brightest of lights and on the biggest of stages, they came through and were downright DOMINANT.

Luck completed just 19 of 36 passes for 203 yards and a touchdown, but he was sacked three times and pressured constantly. He looked uncomfortable and that Chiefs pass rush looked deadly at Arrowhead in front of the Sea of Red.

Oh yeah, and that run defense allowed just 87 yards on the ground. Marlon Mack had just rushed for nearly 150 yards last week, but he did next to nothing on Saturday evening.
