Kansas football has its head coach of the future, but now the Jayhawks need their quarterback. Jalen Hurts being that quarterback in Lawrence would be insanely cool.

It sounds so simple, right? Write a post about why Jalen Hurts could play for the Kansas Jayhawks and maybe it’ll come true. In this case, this is purely speculative and there’s been nothing linking the two together.

Let’s start from the beginning here. Hurts spent the first three seasons of his collegiate career at the University of Alabama, where he threw for 5,626 yards, 48 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He also rushed for 1,976 yards and 23 touchdowns.

A lot of this damage was done during Hurts’ freshman year in which he threw for 2,780 yards and 23 touchdowns and rushed for just shy of 1,000 yards with 13 scores on the ground. Hurts led the Crimson Tide to the National Championship Game in each of his first two years, though he didn’t win the trophy as a freshman.

The drama for Hurts came as a sophomore last year when he played nearly the entire year, but was benched in the National Championship Game for then freshman Tua Tagovailoa. We all know what happened from there. Tagovailoa lit it up and took over the starting duties this past season.

Hurts opted to remain at Alabama during his junior year and saw playing time in the regular season due to the Tide blowing out just about all of their opponents. He led the Tide back against Georgia in the SEC title game and now will transfer out of Alabama’s program to seek a starting opportunity elsewhere.

Prior to the hiring of Les Miles, there’d have been zero chance that Hurts ever would have considered transferring to Kansas, but Miles is a big hire for the program and shows they’re striving to get back to winning. Miles has experience coaching in the SEC and with Hurts previously playing at Alabama, perhaps that could work in the Jayhawks’ favor.

KU hasn’t been a winning program for a decade, but wouldn’t a guy like Jalen Hurts want to take that challenge? He’d have an explosive running back in Pooka Williams and a defense that has been improving over the years.

This isn’t realistic, but if Hurts did choose to play quarterback for the Jayhawks, he’d the MAN in Lawrence, Kansas. Even if it resulted in just a bowl appearance, KU fans would gladly take that.

Kansas hasn’t been listed in any of the potential landing spots for Hurts (and that’s not shocking whatsoever), but just imagine for a moment how cool it’d be if he did end up settling on Lawrence. It’d only be for a year, but that’d be a hell of a get for Coach Miles.

Dream big, Jayhawk fans. Dream big.
