Mizzou football quarterback Drew Lock has the potential of being the top quarterback taken in the 2019 NFL Draft. A recent 2019 NFL Mock Draft has the MU signal caller going in the top ten.
It’s always exciting when a member of the Mizzou football team is considered to be one of the best prospects in the upcoming draft. That’s just what Missouri is seeing right now, as Drew Lock could very well be the first quarterback off the board when the 2019 NFL Draft takes place in April.
Lock, who is preparing to play in his final game with Mizzou, has thrown for 11,820 yards, 96 touchdowns, and 39 interceptions throughout his four-year career. This year, to this point, he’s thrown for 3,125 yards, 25 touchdowns, and eight picks in an 8-4 season that has the Tigers ranked in the top 25 national poll.
The Tigers quarterback had debated about forgoing his senior season this time last year, but ended up returning for Columbia for the final year of his eligibility. That likely was because he was going to be a Day 2 or 3 selection and another year of fine tuning could turn him into a first round pick.
Well, here we are, and Drew Lock is considered to be a first round prospect.
The latest 2019 NFL Mock Draft put out by CBS Sports had the Mizzou signal caller as the sixth overall pick to none other than the Jacksonville Jaguars,
"Something tells me Tom Coughlin, Doug Marrone and Co. will like the vast experience Lock got in the SEC. He has the arm and pocket presence to be a franchise quarterback."
This pick makes sense, as the Jaguars discovered what we all knew heading into 2018 in that Blake Bortles can’t play quarterback. Cody Kessler is an okay backup, but he’s probably not the long-term answer in Jacksonville.

Not only was Lock a top ten pick, but he was actually the first and only quarterback selected in this mock draft. Perhaps Chris Trapasso (the creator of this mock draft) didn’t include Dwayne Haskins due to the fact that he hasn’t made a decision yet about his future, but either way, it was just Drew Lock at the most important position in the sport of football.
Lock has the potential to be a great talent in the NFL, but whatever team takes him, say it is the Jaguars, needs to give him time to learn. I know the NFL is all about winning now, but Lock will likely need a half a season at least to get that transition down.
It’s no secret that Drew Lock is a polished passer, but during his collegiate career he has struggled against good defenses. If he does end up going to Jacksonville, hopefully they give him enough time to learn the system and don’t throw him to the wolves right away.
The Jaguars are a team that appeared in the AFC Championship Game a year ago and came oh so close to making it to the Super Bowl. It could have been argued that had they had the right quarterback, they might have made it. Perhaps Lock is that quarterback that can take Jacksonville to the next level.
What would you think of this pairing, Tiger fans? Would Drew Lock fit in well with the Jacksonville Jaguars?
