The road to the Super Bowl on the AFC side will come through Arrowhead Stadium, as the Kansas City Chiefs took care of business against the Oakland Raiders and notched home field advantage.

Well, it took a few weeks, but the Kansas City Chiefs got the job done and will now play every game at home for the rest of the season (unless they make the Super Bowl, of course).

All the Chiefs had to do in the final week of the season was beat the lowly Oakland Raiders and they’d clinch the number one seed in the AFC playoffs. The Raiders didn’t look like they even wanted to play a real game, turning the ball over more times than I can keep track of.

The Chiefs not only put up 35 points, but their defense limited the Raiders to just three points. Arrowhead Stadium continues to be a house of horrors for Derek Carr, who now moves to 0-5 in Kansas City during his career.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

This game never really appeared to be in question, but had the Raiders not turned the ball over so much, it obviously would have been closer. Derek Carr threw two picks and was sacked three times while the Chiefs defense forced another two fumbles.

Patrick Mahomes pretty much took the entire fourth quarter off and Chad Henne got to play for the first time since the preseason. Mahomes finished the day with 281 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception and finished the season with 50 touchdown passes. That should be enough to get him the MVP award, right?

The Kansas City Chiefs had a chance to clinch home field advantage over the last two weeks, but failed to get the job done. While most of us felt good about them beating Oakland, the Chiefs hadn’t looked great in those two losses.

This week, however, they looked like a number one seed. Yes, it was against a bad Raiders team, but hey… A win is a win and that’s all the Chiefs had to do to get that top seed.

With the win, the Chiefs also notched their third straight AFC West title and fans have to be loving what they’re experiencing right now. The team has not held home field advantage in the playoffs since the 2003 season with that year’s explosive offense.

Hopefully, the end result is much different this time around, which it very well could be. Patrick Mahomes has gotten the Kansas City Chiefs this far. Can he finish the job and get the good guys to the Super Bowl?

Stay tuned.
