Kansas football has a new head coach taking the reins in 2019. What does the Jayhawks’ schedule look like for next season?

The Kansas Jayhawks hired Les Miles to take over the football program beginning in 2019. He and his Jayhawks football team will have their work cut out for them in his first year at the helm. What does the 2019 schedule look like for Miles and company?

  • August 31 – Indiana State
  • September 7 – Coastal Carolina
  • September 14 – at Boston College
  • September 21 – West Virginia
  • September 28 – at TCU
  • October 5 – Oklahoma
  • October 19 – at Texas
  • October 26 – Texas Tech
  • November 2 – Kansas State
  • November 16 – at Oklahoma State
  • November 23 – at Iowa State
  • November 30 – Baylor

Kansas starts the Les Miles era off with two home non-conference games. The first will come against Indiana State of the Missouri Valley Conference. The second will be against Coastal Carolina of the Sun Belt Conference. Neither is a football school necessarily, but we’ve seen KU struggle against teams in the past that Power 5 schools have no business losing to.

The third game of the season will be a tough one, as the Jayhawks play a Boston College team that was ranked in 2018. The Eagles will also be at home in that one, which will work in their favor for sure.

After those three non-conference games, Kansas football then begins Big 12 Conference play and will kick that off in Lawrence against West Virginia. The Mountaineers won by 16 points in Morgantown this past season, but the game wasn’t as much of a blowout as the score would indicate.

Kansas will travel to TCU the next week and that’s the one conference victory the Jayhawks notched a season ago. Will they be able to beat the Horned Frogs in back to back years?

The biggest games in Lawrence for 2019 will be against Oklahoma and Kansas State. Oklahoma is a big one because they’re always in contention for the College Football Playoff and Sooner fans travel well.

The Kansas State game is a big one for obvious reasons. It’s the Sunflower Showdown, which has favored the Wildcats over the last decade plus. Bill Snyder retired this offseason, however, which could shake that rivalry up quite a bit.

Finally, Kansas football will close their 2019 season out with a home game against Baylor on the Friday after Thanksgiving. KU fans can celebrate the holiday and then head out to Memorial Stadium to watch the Jayhawks in their final game of the season.

When looking at KU’s schedule for next year, four or five wins seems realistic for this Jayhawk team. If Les Miles could come in and get five wins in year one as the Kansas football head coach, fans would feel really good about what the future has in store.
