The Kansas City Royals used their first pick of the 2018 MLB Draft on pitcher Brady Singer and the former Florida Gator gave back to his parents for the holiday.

One of the best “feel good” stories of the holiday season revolves around a member of the Kansas City Royals. Get the tissues out for this one, Royals fans, you’re going to need them.

Brady Singer, who the Royals drafted with the 18th overall pick, is making headlines this week after he did something very sweet for his parents. Singer tweeted out a video on Christmas Day of his parents reading a letter he had written for them.

In that letter, Singer thanks them for supporting him and making it a point to be at all of his games and make sure he could be the best he could be. He ends the letter saying that he will pay off his parents’ debt.

The tweet, and the video, went viral.

More from Kansas City Royals

As I mentioned above, the Royals spent their first pick in the MLB Draft last year on the pitcher from Florida. Royals fans got to see their first glimpse of their future pitcher during Florida’s run to the College World Series last year.

In the Gators’ Super Regional, Singer went 6.2 innings and allowed four hits, two runs, and two walks while striking out nine batters. Florida got the win and eventually made it to the final eight teams in Omaha before getting knocked out by Arkansas.

Singer was drafted by the Royals in hopes of that he could contribute soon. The team is rebuilding and they’ll need some arms for their rotation for when they’re ready to compete for a playoff spot.

Singer, along with his college teammate Jackson Kowar, are hopefully going to get a chance to prove themselves this season. Both were great pitchers for the Gators throughout their college careers, and now it’d be great if Royals fans got to see both pitch in the majors this year.

The likeliest scenario for both guys is that they get called up in September when the rosters expand. Singer didn’t even pitch in the minors last season, as he was injured during Florida’s playoff run.

Even if the Kansas City Royals don’t see Brady Singer on the mound this season, what he did for his parents was an incredible gesture. Royals fans should be proud to have this kid on their team for years to come.
