The Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Seahawks on Sunday Night Football, making them 2-4 in primetime games this season. Patrick Mahomes shouldn’t be blamed for these losses, but he will be.

The talk heading into this weekend’s game against the Seattle Seahawks was how Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was 0-3 in big games to that point of the season. After losing to the Seahawks, he’s 0-4 in big games.

Even though Mahomes is the quarterback and a team’s success typically lives and breathes with how the quarterback performs, he’s NOT the reason the Chiefs lost those games.

In KC’s first loss of the season, which came on the road in New England, the defense gave up 43 points and didn’t force a single punt from the Patriots. Mahomes threw for 352 yards and four touchdowns that night and the Chiefs offense scored 40 points and lost in the final seconds of the game.

The second loss came against the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football last month. This one will be remembered for a long time for all of the offense that took place and Mahomes lit the Rams up.

Mahomes accounted for five turnovers against the Rams, but he also threw for 478 yards and six touchdowns while helping get the Chiefs 51 points on the board. The defense allowed 54 points. A team shouldn’t lose a game when scoring over 50 points.

These last two weeks, Mahomes has been as good as advertised. He hasn’t thrown an interception and has thrown at least two touchdowns in both games. At the end of the night, both losses were because his defense couldn’t pull it together.

The one primetime game the Kansas City Chiefs won this year is never talked about, but it should be discussed more. It was week four in Denver against the Broncos on Monday Night Football and the Chiefs were struggling offensively in the first half of that one.

More from Patrick Mahomes

That was the game where Mahomes led the Chiefs to victory after trailing for most of the game. Oh yeah, and he also threw a pass left-handed as Von Miller was chasing after him. That was a big win for the Kansas City Chiefs, but it’s been forgotten about.

Maybe that’s because the Broncos aren’t a playoff contender, but it was an impressive comeback by Mahomes. In the four losses the Chiefs have suffered this year, only one of them was one where Mahomes didn’t play his best game and that was against the Rams. Even then, he threw for nearly 500 yards and six touchdowns.

The Chiefs have lost four games all season and the storyline is going to continue to be that Patrick Mahomes can’t win “the big games”. Hopefully his defense can help him out a bit more come playoff time because it’d be annoying to have to hear Colin Cowherd and whoever else run their mouth about Mahomes not being able to get the job done.
