The Kansas City Chiefs lost in dramatic fashion to the Chargers on Thursday night. While the Chiefs still hold the number one overall seed, there’s no guarantee that they hold onto it for the rest of the season.

As of now, the Kansas City Chiefs still are the number one seed in the AFC playoffs. Unfortunately, there are still two more games remaining for the Chiefs and it won’t be easy holding onto that top spot. With the season winding down, let’s take a look at the remaining schedules for all of the AFC contenders.

We’ll start with the Chiefs. They have just two games left in the regular season and neither is a given. First up will be a Sunday night affair in Seattle against the Seahawks.

While the Seahawks didn’t win their division this year, they’re still VERY good and not many expected them to this good. Their defense has played much better than anticipated and Russell Wilson is still as clutch as ever.

Kansas City’s final game will be at Arrowhead against the Raiders. People are probably thinking that is an easy victory for the Chiefs, but the Raiders never make it easy for the Chiefs. The black and silver played KC down to the wire a few weeks ago and with everything potentially on the line for the Chiefs in two weeks, would it be shocking if the Raiders came in and played a tough game?

In the two seed is the Patriots, who will play an afternoon game against the Steelers on Sunday. That is a HUGE game for AFC playoff purposes and Chiefs fans definitely should be pulling for Pittsburgh, as difficult as that might be for us.

New England wraps up the year at home against Buffalo and the Jets. The Pats losing to Pittsburgh is the best hope for Chiefs fans because it’s doubtful they fall to the Bills or the Jets, especially not at home.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

The three seed belong to Houston and they beat the Jets on Saturday afternoon. Their final two games are on the road against the Eagles and at home versus the struggling Jaguars. Indianapolis isn’t far behind Houston, but the Texans would really have to choke in order to not win the AFC South.

I mentioned that the Steelers host the Patriots on Sunday afternoon in the later kickoffs, but their schedule doesn’t get any easier after that. They’ll travel to New Orleans in week 16 for a date with the Saints and then finish the year at home versus the Bengals.

The team everyone will be keeping an eye on is the Chargers, who don’t have a cakewalk to the finish line. They host the Ravens next weekend in what should be a tough battle and finish the year on the road in Denver.

With the Broncos losing to Cleveland on Saturday, they’ll likely be less motivated to really compete in week 17. To think the Chiefs’ season will once again come down to the Broncos pulling off an upset is nerve-wracking, to say the least.

The current sixth seed is Baltimore and their final three games are home against the Buccaneers, at the Chargers, and they finish things off by hosting the Browns in week 17.

The Kansas City Chiefs obviously need to win out, but it won’t be easy. Seattle is really tough and it doesn’t help that the game is on the road in a loud atmosphere.

Time for a Defensive Change. dark. Next

If the Chiefs drop another game and the Chargers win out, KC will be a Wild Card team in the playoffs. If they win out, it doesn’t matter what LA does. The Chiefs would win the AFC West.

So, Chiefs Kingdom, what do you think ends up happening between these two teams?
