The Kansas City Chiefs play in a huge game on Thursday night against the Los Angeles Chargers. This has pretty much been a one-sided rivalry since Andy Reid got to Kansas City.

Standing in the way between the Kansas City Chiefs clinching their third straight AFC West title is a Thursday night rumble against the Los Angeles Chargers, who are also still in contention for the division title and the number one overall seed. Yeah, as you can tell, this is a HUGE game.

Fortunately, Andy Reid has owned the Chargers since he arrived to Kansas City to take over as the head coach of the Chiefs. That’s reason enough for fans to be confident heading into this game, even with their third string running back slated to start and Tyreek Hill being banged up a bit.

For those wondering, December 29th, 2013 is the last time the Chiefs dropped a game to the Chargers. It was the final game of that season, the Chiefs were resting their starters for the playoffs, and the game somehow still went to overtime, even with Chase Daniel at the helm.

No one knew at the time that the overtime loss to the Chargers on that day would be the last time the Chargers would beat the Chiefs for over four years (and closing in on five), but that’s what we’re going through right now.

The Chiefs swept the Bolts in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and took a game from them in the first week of the 2018 season. If they win on Thursday night, it’d mean five straight season sweeps of the Chargers, who haven’t beaten KC since they relocated to Los Angeles.

Every time these two match up, I always say, “The Chargers are due for a win!” and they definitely are. If there’s a time for the Chargers to finally snap that losing streak, it’s on Thursday.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

For one, this is a pretty complete Chargers team. Their offense is ranked sixth in total yards this season (with the Chiefs sitting in the top spot in that category) while their defense is eighth in total yards allowed. For what it’s worth, the Chiefs are third to last in that same category.

This has set up for what should be an epic Thursday night game at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs are currently 3.5 favorites according to Odds Shark, but we know how quickly those odds can change.

With Andy Reid’s track record against the AFC West, especially over the last few years (he’s dropped just two games against the division since 2015), it’s hard to bet against the Kansas City Chiefs in this game.

At the same time, however, the Los Angeles Chargers have everything depending on winning this game. If they lose, there will be no hope at the division for the Bolts and the number one overall seed won’t be obtainable for them. That should be enough motivation for the Chargers, wouldn’t you think?

Andy Reid has dominated the Chargers since joining the Chiefs (9-2 against them), but can he keep that dominance up on Thursday night? We’ll find out soon enough!
