The Los Angeles Chargers were gifted their first signature win of the season in Pittsburgh. Philip Rivers and company overcame a 16-point deficit to move the team to 9-3 overall and kept pace with the KC Chiefs for the division title.

Despite a 10-2 record, the Kansas City Chiefs are going to have to keep their hot pace over these last four weeks. It’s a tight race for the AFC West title with the Los Angeles Chargers right on the Chiefs’ heels.

The Chargers got away with a blatant false start on a play that resulted in a 46-yard touchdown pass from Philip Rivers to receiver Travis Benjamin up the right sideline. Then later in the third quarter, Rivers fired a pass across the middle that would have been intercepted by Steelers cornerback Joe Hayden had he not been the target of friendly fire from safety Sean Davis.

The ball was tipped safely in the air and into the waiting hands of receiver Keenan Allen who had a day himself. He finished with 14 catches for 148 yards and helped the Chargers secure their biggest win over the last four seasons.

Did we mention that pass rusher Joey Bosa is back yet? The super talented defensive end has finally made his way back onto the field, solidifying the outside of their defense with fellow edge rusher, Melvin Ingram.

They’ve also seemed to hit a major home run with rookie safety Derwin James. This kid is really impressive, making plays all over the field including his 36-yard interception return in the first quarter last week.

Look, I think we can all agree that the Chargers are a very talented football team and they deserve the Chiefs fans attention, but the fact of the matter is, they haven’t beaten the Chiefs in four years and they seem to bottle up and shoot themselves in the foot time and time again.

This exact same time last season, the Chargers rolled into Arrowhead in week 15 on a Saturday night riding a healthy four-game winning streak and putting themselves in position to take the division and a potential playoff spot. They lost 30-13 in a game where they turned the ball over four times with three interceptions from Phillip Rivers.

Now I know that was last year, but that spilled over into week one of this season as well. The Chargers have been the trendy pick all year long to win the AFC West and potentially make the Super Bowl, but in week one at home to the Chiefs, they dropped passes, got dusted by Tyreek Hill, and Rivers tossed a costly interception to safety Ron Parker.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

They also dropped a game two weeks ago at home to the Denver Broncos that could ultimately be their downfall for the division if they finish with the same record as the Chiefs.

The Chargers must survive against a really bad Cincinnati Bengals team first, as they host them this week in Los Angeles. Kansas City has no cupcake, as they will be hosting the surging Baltimore Ravens. If Kansas City messes around and loses this week, their Thursday night game could literally mean EVERYTHING for this season.

That game would determine major seeding within the conference and could win or lose Patrick Mahomes the MVP award.

All this said, the Chargers do deserve the Chiefs respect and I 100% would not be surprised if they come in motivated and beat the Chiefs in Arrowhead. They have the talent and confidence to do it.

Until they prove it though, I’m sticking with “I’ll believe it when I see it.”
