Kansas football has appeared to have their head coach of the future, as it’s been reported by numerous sources that the Jayhawks have a deal in place with Les Miles.

When talk arose initially of current KU football head coach David Beaty getting the axe at the end of the season, the name linked to the soon-to-be vacant job almost instantly was Les Miles. Most would remember Miles from his tenure as LSU’s head coach, which he held from 2005-2016

Miles spent 12 seasons at the helm in Baton Rouge and never posted a losing season with the Tigers. His final season saw him coach in just four games before getting fired and it was due to a 2-2 start for LSU that year.

This seems to be a good hire for the Kansas Jayhawks, but there are certainly some concerns. Miles is 65 years old and that’s not exactly an attractive age for head coaches. How many years left in the tank does Miles have?

Beaty is finishing out the season on the sidelines, but Miles will probably take over immediately after the 2018 campaign wraps up. He brings a winning attitude to Lawrence, which is something the football program hasn’t experienced for over a decade now.

KU fans have a right to be excited about this hire due to the name that Les Miles has built up for himself and the success he’s had, especially at a tough program like LSU. The SEC is a much tougher place to play in the Big 12, but recruits are easier to get there. Will Miles be able to get the same type of talent to come play ball at KU?

It’s easy to think back to the Charlie Weiss hire, which wasn’t long ago, and think this could be the second coming of that. While KU went for the biggest name on the market, hopefully this time is different for a program that has had very little success over the last decade.

We’ll see how this hire holds up, but for now, Kansas football fans should be happy. Les Miles is a big time name and has been out of the game for two years now. Can he come in and instantly make KU a contender in the conference again?

What do you think of this hire, KU fans? Will Les Miles succeed or be yet another poor head coach for the football program?

Rock Chalk!
