KC Chiefs fans are loving Patrick Mahomes and so are a ton of other outlets. Pro Football Focus ranked Mahomes as the second best quarterback after nine weeks of NFL action.

Patrick Mahomes is exceeding everyone’s expectations this year and Kansas City Chiefs fans are loving all of the attention their young quarterback is getting. The latest praise comes via Austin Gayle of Pro Football Focus, who ranked all 32 starting quarterbacks through the first nine weeks of the season.

Gayle thought a lot of Mahomes, putting him second out of ALL of the starting signal callers. The only quarterback ranked higher than Mahomes is Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints and it’d be tough for anyone to really argue that. Brees is an absolute stud and he’s pushing 40 years old.

Here is what Gayle had to say about Mahomes and why he’s ranked second on this list,

"Mahomes has lit the NFL on fire with his play under center for the red-hot Kansas City Chiefs. He shares the NFL lead in big-time throws (23) with a few other highly ranked guys on this list and leads all signal-callers in touchdowns of 10-plus air yards."

Chiefs Kingdom knows this all too well, as Mahomes has been absolutely on fire through the first nine games of the season. He’s thrown for 29 touchdowns and seven interceptions while tossing for over 2,900 yards. He’s been incredible.

Mahomes’ numbers are great, but yeah, Brees is playing out of his mind. He’s thrown for less yards than Mahomes, but his defense has been significantly better meaning he isn’t forced to throw as much like Mahomes is. The Saints also have a consistently good run game (the Chiefs are getting to that point too).

What puts Brees over the top, however, is that he’s thrown just one pick so far. ONE. He’s playing as good as he has throughout his entire career and that offensive line is arguably the best in the league, which certainly helps Brees be the quarterback he is.

Rounding out the top five are Jared Goff (3), Philip Rivers (4), and Aaron Rodgers (5). The fact that Gayle has Mahomes as a better quarterback than all of these guys, not to mention Tom Brady, is high praise.

It’s cool to see Patrick Mahomes having the kind of season that he is, but also that everyone around the nation is appreciating what he’s doing. While it’d be cooler if he were first on this list, not many people are going to be upset that he’s considered second to a future Hall of Famer in Drew Brees.

Keep on keepin’ on, Patty!
