Kansas football rumors were swirling after the Jayhawks’ 27-3 loss to Iowa State. One rumor included David Beaty being fired and another one mentioned Les Miles as a possible replacement.

It was a crazy afternoon/evening for the Kansas Jayhawks football program, as several rumors started to swirl. KU was embarrassed at home by the Iowa State Cyclones and hours after the game ended, Soren Petro of 810 WHB tweeted he’d been informed David Beaty had been relieved of his duties.

The odd part of the story, however, was that the news didn’t surface in very many other spots. To his credit, Petro did say the confirmation would come within 24 hours of the initial tweet and that he heard Beaty would remain on the sidelines throughout the rest of the season.

The rumors got weirder though, as Petro tweeted he heard there was REAL traction to Les Miles being the next man in charge of KU football.

It was a weird turn of events for Kansas football over the last few weeks. This time last week, the Jayhawks were reeling after knocking off TCU, which was KU’s first conference win in two years. It seemed after that victory that Kansas might decide to stick with David Beaty for at least another year, but it also wouldn’t have been surprising to go in a different direction.

More from Kansas Jayhawks

These are called rumors for a reason. There hasn’t been any official word on any of this, but it’s still fun to speculate. If Kansas could get Les Miles to come to Lawrence and be the next coach of the Jayhawks, that’d give this program a huge boost.

Miles last coached in 2016 at LSU where he spent 12 seasons at the helm. LSU parted ways with Miles after the Tigers started the year at just 2-2 in 2016 and he has yet to takeover anywhere since then.

During his tenure at LSU, Les Miles and the Tigers had winning seasons every year he was in charge. He led the program to a National Championship in 2007 and to another appearance in 2011 (where they lost to Alabama).

KU fans should be excited about this even if it is just speculation. Les Miles would bring a new type of attitude to Lawrence and perhaps could turn this program back into a competitor again. The Jayhawks have not been good on the gridiron in over a decade and Miles could be just the guy to get KU back into relevancy.

Some fans might be worried that this could turn into a similar situation that we saw with Charlie Weiss, but if there’s any chance that the Jayhawks can get Les Miles to takeover their football program, they need to pounce on it.

Aside from that Orange Bowl victory in 2007, Kansas football hasn’t had much to be proud of. Bringing in Les Miles could be just what this program needs to turn things around.
