UGLY: Drew Lock and the Mizzou passing attack

More from Missouri Tigers

Mizzou football’s starting quarterback Drew Lock was not his usual self against the South Carolina Gamecocks. While he has torched most of the defenses that he’s faced so far this year, Lock did not perform well against South Carolina at all.

Part of that could, and should, be attributed to bad weather. Columbia, South Carolina was inundated with rain during the game. It’s remarkably more difficult to throw the ball and complete passes reliably in a torrential downpour like what happened on Saturday afternoon.

That’s incredibly understandable. Lock likes to throw the ball down the field and take advantage of mismatches when they are available. That isn’t something that works well in the rain.

That shouldn’t totally excuse how Lock played on Saturday, but it does explain it some. Regardless of the reason, the passing game was a mess. Lock only completed 17 of his 36 passes for 204 yards and threw two interceptions in the process. He’s now gone two straight games without a passing touchdown.

This was by far the ugliest aspect of Saturday’s game.
