The KC Chiefs’ week seven match-up against the Cincinnati Bengals was recently flexed into the Sunday night slot for that week. This shows that the NFL respects the Chiefs, even this early into the year.

It wasn’t long ago when the Kansas City Chiefs were lucky to get one primetime game a season. Of course, a lot of that was due to their mediocre to poor performance prior to Andy Reid coming to town, but even in Reid’s early years, the Chiefs didn’t get a ton of primetime slots.

That has changed in recent years though and it’s been fun for Chiefs Kingdom. We’re just coming off a Monday night Chiefs victory in Denver over the Broncos and this weekend they’ll be in Foxboro for a date with the Patriots on Sunday Night Football.

Having a Sunday night game this week made it seem like KC wouldn’t be on the potential flexed games list for a few more weeks, but the NFL decided they didn’t care if national audiences had to watch the Chiefs in back to back weeks. They, just like Chiefs fans, are all about Mahomes mania.

With this game getting flexed into the Sunday night spot in week seven, the Kansas City Chiefs now have a Sunday Night Football game at Arrowhead, which wasn’t the case before. They had two games in the primetime Sunday slot, but both were road games.

Initially, the KC Chiefs had just four primetime games:

More from Kansas City Chiefs

  • Week four in Denver on Monday Night Football
  • Week six in Foxboro on Sunday Night Football
  • Week 15 vs Chargers on Thursday Night Football
  • Week 16 at Seahawks on Sunday Night Football

It was disappointing that the Chiefs only had one home primetime game, as Arrowhead is one of the most explosive stadiums in the league. That sea of red is fun to watch on television and the commentators almost always have something to say about the volume in the stadium.

Perhaps flexing this Chiefs/Bengals game to Sunday night means the Chiefs/Seahawks gets flexed out at some point, but fans would probably be more than okay with that. The Seahawks aren’t a great team this year and with that game not in primetime, maybe the 12th man isn’t as audible.

This Chiefs/Bengals game should be a good one. We have to get past this weekend’s game against the Patriots, which is never an easy victory, but even then, the worst the Chiefs would be for their week seven game is 5-1. The Bengals are currently 4-1 and host the Steelers in week six, so the worst they could be is 4-2.

Both of these teams have overachieved thus far and seeing them go head-to-head in primetime should be a fun event. The Chiefs have not beaten the Bengals in the regular season since 2007. That very well could change on Sunday Night Football in week seven.
