The Mizzou football team got a much needed bye week after losing big to the Georgia Bulldogs. They have a chance to rebound against the South Carolina Gamecocks this weekend.

Well, Mizzou football‘s upset bid against the incredibly dominant Georgia Bulldogs fell short two weeks ago. The Tigers absoultely couldn’t catch a break against the Bulldogs when they met.

However, Mizzou got something of one with their bye week this past Saturday.

And now, despite that demoralizing loss that Missouri suffered through two weeks ago, the Tigers have a great chance to bounce back this week. This Saturday, Mizzou will head on over to Columbia, South Carolina for the annual game against the Gamecocks.

South Carolina is reeling a bit after a less than stellar September. The Gamecocks are only 2-2 right now and they’re 1-2 against foes from the Southeastern Conference. Against Georgia in the second week of the season, South Carolina lost 41-17. This past week against Kentucky, South Carolina’s offense fell short as the Gamecocks lost 24-10.

To keep everything within the context of what is going on this season, Kentucky is a good team this year and Georgia is, well, Georgia. Neither of these teams should be taken for granted by any member of the SEC East this year.

That would also include Mizzou.

South Carolina’s defense appears to be solid, but that doesn’t mean that Drew Lock and the Tigers’ high powered offense will be completely unable to find opportunities to score in the other Columbia this Saturday.

It just means that the Tigers will have to make sure that their defense shows up as well to give Mizzou a solid chance at winning this weekend.

The Tigers have an interesting and challenging schedule in October and this road trip to Columbia, South Carolina will be followed up with one down to Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It’s more than just a little unrealistic to predict Missouri winning against the Crimson Tide, so it’s crucial for the Tigers to win here to get some momentum back for this season.

This game won’t necessarily define the Tigers’ season, but it will give Missouri a chance to get even closer to locking up bowl eligibility. Barry Odom and his staff are working to prove that they can consistently win with the Tigers, making it to a second consecutive bowl game would help to do just that.

There’s no guarantee that Missouri is going to win this weekend when the Tigers take on the Gamecocks. There’s just a guarantee that this is a chance for the Mizzou football team to bounce back from their latest loss. Hopefully that bye week helped give the Tigers some rest.
