Kansas City Royals: Vote for Whit Merrifield for Hank Aaron Award
Kansas City Royals fans love Whit Merrifield and now the Royals star has a chance to win the American League Hank Aaron Award, but he needs your help!
When thinking about the Kansas City Royals these past few years, it’s hard not to look at Whit Merrifield and consider him one of the most popular players on the team. Now it’s time to reward Merrifield for his efforts.
Every year, Major League Baseball lets fans vote on who will take home the prestigious Hank Aaron Award. Hank Aaron, for those of you who don’t know, is an MLB Hall of Famer who played first base and right field during his 23 year career.
The award in his name is decided by a vote. The player with the best batting average from their team goes up against everyone else with the same stat in the league and from there, it’s up to the fans to decide who wins the big award. There is a winner from the American League and the National League with last year’s winners being Jose Altuve (of the Astros) and Giancarlo Stanton (of the Marlins).

Unsurprisingly, Merrifield led the Royals in batting average, hitting .304 in 707 plate appearances. He continues to be the gift that keeps on giving for the KC Royals, batting at least .283 in each of his three major league seasons to this point.
Merrifield might be close to 30 years old, but he defied the odds this year and continued to put up tremendous numbers. He was one of the few bright spots on a lackluster Royals team that struggled to do much of anything throughout the year.
While Merrifield is a gem and Royals fans will be the first to tell you that, he has some tough competition in the voting pool. Some of Merrifield’s opponents for the award are Mike Trout of the Angels, Alex Bregman of the Astros, and J.D. Martinez of the Red Sox.
It certainly won’t be easy, but if there’s one thing that Royals fans do better than anyone else in the sport, it’s vote. Remember the 2015 All-Star Game? Seven Royals made it to the big game because of the fans voting their tails off.
Whit Merrifield is a phenomenal player, but he hasn’t gotten the praise he deserves. This would be a small way of paying him back for his efforts over the past three seasons. Whit has yet to make it to an All-Star Game or get any type of national praise. He deserves a big time award and this is one that fans can help him obtain.
Voting for the Hank Aaron Award ends on October 8th (this upcoming Monday) so make sure to get your vote in and show Merrifield some appreciation!
