Kansas City Chiefs: Andy Reid needs to stay aggressive on offense
The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off an electric come from behind win over the Broncos. What helped get them that victory was Andy Reid being aggressive on the offensive side of the ball.
It’s no secret this year that the Kansas City Chiefs are terrible defensively. That means their offense is going to have to come out swinging each and every week in order for the Chiefs to continue winning games.
Let’s be honest here. The Chiefs probably should have lost on Monday to the Denver Broncos. They had some help from the officials, though Broncos fans shouldn’t be complaining too much about the delay of game that wasn’t called – the Chiefs were called for ten penalties and the Broncos had just three.
What I was initially getting at there, however, was that the Chiefs were able to put up 27 points because Andy Reid knew he had to be aggressive whenever his team had possession of the football. He proved that from the get-go too, going for it on fourth and one on the Chiefs’ own 34-yard line. That’s ballsy.

Of course, Kansas City went on to convert and then drove down the field and ended up adding three points off of a Harrison Butker field goal. If the Chiefs opt to punt there, the Broncos very well could have taken control of the game early on, but that wasn’t the case.
The Chiefs were later forced to go for it on fourth down on their second to last drive of the evening. They were trailing 20-23 at that point and there wasn’t a whole lot of time left in the game, so that was a no brainer decision.
The one at the beginning of the game, however, wasn’t something that Andy Reid had to do, but fans were glad that he did. Even if the Chiefs didn’t convert there, you have to hand it to Reid for being gutsy there.
We’re starting to see head coaches make more ballsy calls like this and perhaps it had something to do with Doug Pederson going for a big fourth down in the Super Bowl earlier this year. Pederson was a protege of Reid’s and maybe, just maybe, watching his student do something so daring and see it pay off in a big way showed Reid that he could do the same thing with his own squad.
The Chiefs offense is going to have to take control and put up a massive amount of points each week because this defense can’t stop anyone. It’s good to see that Andy Reid has faith in his offense to convert on fourth and whatever and continue the drive. The offense is going to have to stay confident and aggressive for the duration of the 2018 season.
