Even after losing their first two conference games, Kansas football has a few opportunities to win a game in the Big 12 this year.
For the first time in a long time, Kansas football isn’t currently the worst team in the Big 12. They’re 2-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play, but it isn’t hopeless for the Jayhawks to notch a victory, or even two victories, in the Big 12.
As of now, there are two teams with either the same or even worse record than KU. Surprisingly, one of them is in-state rival Kansas State, who is having a disappointing season to their standards. K-State is also 2-3 and 0-2 in the division, falling to West Virginia and Texas.
While KSU is still a better team than the Jayhawks, the Sunflower Showdown between the two this year could be one of the few opportunities Kansas has to beat the Wildcats on the gridiron. K-State has definitely been the more dominant team in football over the years, but the purple and silver don’t look like their usual selves. If Pooka Williams gets going in that game, KU could have a chance.

A team with a worse record than the Jayhawks is Iowa State, but to be fair, they’ve played one less game due to their season opener getting canceled. The Cyclones were one of the more surprising teams a season ago and even spent some time being ranked nationally, but they are not looking like that same team. ISU is 1-3 and 0-2 in conference play.
Aside from last year, Kansas football and Iowa State football used to be in the cellar of the Big 12 every year. Some fans dubbed their game against each other as the Toilet Bowl or whatever foul name you can come up with, but it usually meant whichever team lost would finish the year in last place in the conference.
While Kansas football has the most wins they’ve had in awhile, it’d still be nice to see them win a game in the Big 12. They failed to do so last season and we all know the year prior they were able to upset the Texas Longhorns in a memorable game for KU fans. Their best chance at winning a conference game this year will likely come against Iowa State or their in-state rival Kansas State.
Will winning a conference game be enough for David Beaty to keep his job or will he be let go at the end of the 2018 season (or even sooner)?
