Nebraska football lost again on Saturday and fell to 0-4 on the year. This is the first time in program history that the Cornhuskers have been 0-4. Not exactly the kind of history a team wants to make.

Nebraska football has been around for a long time, but on Saturday, they made history. The Nebraska Cornhuskers are 0-4 for the first time EVER in the program’s existence. The Huskers also have lost eight straight games for the first time in program history. Yikes and yikes.

No one expected Nebraska to win the Big Ten Championship Game this year, but I think most fans expected a bowl game would be in play. An 0-4 start was not something any Husker fan saw coming in the first year of the Scott Frost era.

After their first game of the year was canceled due to weather, Nebraska played a tight game against Colorado, lost a stinker to Troy, got blown out by Michigan, and fought hard, but couldn’t complete the comeback against Purdue. That has now led them to this point: an 0-4 start and eight straight losses dating back to last season.

The last time Nebraska football won a game was October 28th, 2017, which came against Purdue on the road. The Huskers narrowly won that game, but weren’t able to replicate their victory against the Boilermakers in 2018.

More from Nebraska Cornhuskers

Looking at the rest of Nebraska’s schedule this year, it’s entirely possible that the only game this team wins is against Bethune-Cookman on October 27th. That would make it so they don’t go an entire calendar year without a victory, but man… a 1-11 record in Scott Frost’s first year would be heartbreaking.

No one is giving up on Frost yet. We all know he can turn this program around, but magic doesn’t happen overnight. Some programs who have been in the WORST of situations turned things around and are in the College Football Playoff discussions regularly now (see Penn State as an extreme example).

This 2018 Nebraska team might have notched a bad record after four games, but in order to get better, sometimes you have to hit rock bottom first. The Huskers now know what 0-4 feels like and it isn’t a good feeling. Hopefully that kicks some life into these guys and the mistakes get shored up and fixed.

The good news was that the offense did come to life in the second half of this game, but it was too little too late. Purdue already had a pretty big lead by that point and were able to run the clock down on their possessions.

The signs of life from the Husker offense shows this team isn’t dead in the water yet. They’re 0-4, but there’s still time this season to right the ship… hopefully.
