Quarterbacks

Keep: Patrick Mahomes, Chad Henne, Chase Litton

The quarterback position was pretty locked down entering training camp in the first two slots. Chad Henne didn’t give fans much comfort before the preseason in case something were to happen to Patrick Mahomes for a game or two but has looked sharp this preseason.

The talk was all about the third quarterback position. The battle between UDFA rookie Chase Litton and veteran Matt McGloin. Litton has looked good this preseason, and while McGloin had a decent game against Atlanta Week 2 where he got playing time over Litton, he’s not in the plans for Kansas City in the long term.

Head coach Andy Reid wants to keep a developmental project at the third quarterback position as he did with Tyler Bray. Finding a quarterback that he can mold together is always what he likes to keep in the roster spot. McGloin didn’t offer that as he’s already been in the league for a few seasons in Oakland.

Litton has a strong arm that while not the same as Mahomes’ if he can develop the team wouldn’t have to alter the playbook too much for the young rookie if he had to step in down the road. He’s shown some ability to make flashy plays which have caught the coaching staff’s eye. I fully expect him to make the final roster.
