It’s disappointing that players like Nicky Lopez and Frank Schwindel probably won’t get a chance to play this year, but it does make sense.

More from Kansas City Royals

The whole service time thing is going to be shoved down all of our throats until these players do end up getting a call-up. Lopez has proven he’s more than ready to play in the majors, but the Royals probably want to wait until guys like Nick Pratto, Kelvin Gutierrez, and Seuly Matias are closer to taking that next step.

It’s hard to blame the Royals in that department too, as they’ll want to keep their next window open as long as possible. Starting the service time on these players too soon could be a critical mistake for this team in their next window.

A name I left off this list was Richard Lovelady, who deserves to get a chance in the bigs, but probably won’t. He’s not on the 40-man roster, meaning the Royals would have to drop someone in order to bring him up.

Plus, why call up Lovelady when you already have Brandon Maurer and Glenn Sparkman? Right? RIGHT?
