Undrafted Free Agents

While most teams have undrafted free agents (UDFA) that are signed right after the draft, not many have more than one if any that have the possibility of making the final roster. Kansas City has a few names that didn’t hear their name called on the big weekend, but could still find a spot on the 53-man roster following the final preseason game.

Ryan Hunter (G)

As the number one prospect entering the Canadian Football League draft, Ryan Hunter chose to try his abilities in the NFL instead this season. It would seem that he is one of those players that has a chance of making the final roster. According to the second unofficial depth chart by the Chiefs, Hunter was the backup at left guard behind Cam Erving.

During the game against the Falcons, Hunter had the second most snaps on the offense with 43 (64%) only behind guard Jordan Devey. Depending on how many offensive linemen the Chiefs look to hold, Hunter could find himself on the final roster.

Arrion Springs (CB)

Springs has been another player that fans are excited about from the UDFA group. He displayed some flashes during offseason workouts but has been quieter during training camp recently and during the preseason. Much like Smith, he showed that he still had some development to do during the first game against Houston. With the team working him with the cornerbacks and the safeties, he could be a hard guy to cut at the end of the preseason.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Ben Niemann (LB)

As one of my favorite players to watch this preseason so far, former Iowa linebacker Ben Niemann has made it very hard on the Chiefs brass to cut him later on. During his first preseason game, Niemann was a big part of a fourth and short play that stopped the Atlanta offense that had the looks to score.

He came away with another great play against Atlanta with a pick-six off Kurt Benkert. Niemann has shown incredible instincts and close speed that has him flashing across the defense. He saw time with the second-team defense this last week against Atlanta and still played well showing why he deserves a roster spot.

Chase Litton

I was very interested to see that Chase Litton didn’t hit the field against Atlanta like most of Chiefs Kingdom. Litton has flashed some good stuff during the first preseason game and training camp which have most people thinking he will make the roster over Matt McGloin. Even though McGloin struggled a bit with the third lineup, he also threw for 58 passing yards on nine of ten completions for a 90.8 passer rating. Could Litton be a practice squad player?

Kansas City has some hard choices to make with some remarkable rookie talents in 2018. Which ones will make the final cut?
