The Kansas City Chiefs aren’t known for their playoff success. In fact, they’re quite laughable when it comes to the playoffs. That being said, however, they did win a playoff game in the 2015 season, but everyone has apparently forgotten about it.

When the Kansas City Chiefs entered the 2015 season, it had been over two decades since the team had won a playoff game. Joe Montana was the franchise’s quarterback when that last postseason win took place and he retired from football shortly after.

When the Chiefs got off to a 1-5 start in 2015, it looked like that playoff win would have to wait at least another year. Instead, however, they rattled off ten straight wins in the regular season to sit at 11-5 on the year and make it into that year’s playoff picture as the first Wild Card team.

Winning that top Wild Card spot meant the Chiefs got to travel to the winner of the lowly AFC South. The honor that year went to the Houston Texans, who won the AFC South with a 9-7 record.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs were definitely the better team on paper, but weird things had happened to the organization during the playoffs over the years (I don’t need to go into detail) and fans were certainly expecting the worst to come yet again.

Instead, the Kansas City Chiefs went down to Houston on January 9, 2016 and won the game 30-0. It was their first playoff victory since January 16th, 1994. I was three years old when that game took place and it took until I was 25 years old to see the Chiefs win another postseason game. Crazy, right?

What I find interesting is that even though the Chiefs won that game in the 2015 season, fans have seemingly forgotten about it. I get that playoff wins have been hard to come by since then, so is that why fans have thrown that game in the trash or is it another reason?

Yes, the Chiefs faced a really bad Texans team that honestly had no business being in the playoffs, but hey… Kansas City can’t control who they play. All they can do is get to the postseason and wait to see who their opponent is.

I will say that facing Brian Hoyer, who threw four interceptions in the game, wasn’t all that menacing, but again… The Chiefs couldn’t control who they played. It wasn’t their fault the Texans didn’t have any good quarterbacks that year.

When the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Houston Texans in January 2016, it shedded that awful “no playoff wins since 1994” stat that had followed the organization for so long. Now, however, fans don’t seem to really count this game and that’s too bad.

Sure, it was a win against a bad team, but it was still a playoff victory and that’s something the Chiefs don’t have much of recently. We should appreciate these wins whenever the Chiefs can get them.

Why do you think Chiefs fans have forgotten about this playoff win?
