The Kansas City Chiefs need help in the secondary, more specifically at cornerback. That’s why the report of them working out Bashaud Breeland is welcomed news.

When looking at the 2018 Kansas City Chiefs roster, cornerback is one of the biggest areas of concern for the team. They traded Marcus Peters to the Rams and are now rolling with newly acquired Kendall Fuller and former Raider David Amerson. Obviously they still have guys like Steven Nelson and rookies Arrion Springs and Tremon Smith, but the position could use some help.

Fortunately, the Chiefs are meeting with Bashaud Breeland on Tuesday. Breeland is a cornerback who could be a big help to the secondary this season.  The news of the two sides meeting was announced on Saturday afternoon.

Breeland was a fourth round pick out of Clemson by the Redskins and he spent the first four years of his career in D.C. He had signed a three-year deal with the Panthers this offseason, but he ended up failing the physical (see tweet below). That now obviously means Breeland is on the market again and he’s hoping to find his next NFL home.

Bashaud Breeland is someone that the Chiefs should absolutely try to lock down. The bad news is that the Raiders will be hosting him on Sunday and could very well get him signed to a deal before he even has a chance to visit the Chiefs. Let’s hope that’s not the case.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Breeland was fairly healthy for his tenure in Washington D.C., starting in at least 14 games in all four seasons. He totaled 211 tackles, 59 defended passes, and eight interceptions during his time with the Redskins. The most interceptions he’s had in a year was three, which he racked up in 2016.

The Chiefs need help in the secondary and Bashaud Breeland would provide just that. He’d be an upgrade over Amerson and could give the Chiefs a pretty decent number one and two corner heading into the 2018 season.

The tweet above indicated that Breeland is good to go for the season, meaning Chiefs fans shouldn’t worry about that whole failed physical thing. The Panthers were willing to give the guy a good contract before all that happened and he should still be the same player that merited that kind of deal. Hopefully the Chiefs can sign the former Clemson corner.

Fans will say what they want about the Chiefs secondary to cheer themselves up, but I have little faith in the unit this season. Fuller should be good, but Amerson was let go from Oakland for a reason. Signing Bashaud Breeland would be a big confidence booster for the season ahead. Hopefully this is something that the Kansas City Chiefs can work out.
