Some rookies have success right away

Going back to listing how many quarterbacks had success during their rookie season that many fans want to bring up, there are those who do succeed. Look at Andrew Luck for example. During his rookie season, the Indianapolis Colts went 11-5 in 2012 with Luck throwing for 4,374 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions.

Cam Newton is another name that stands out when it comes to success right away. During his 2011 rookie season, the Carolina Panthers went 6-10, but Newton had a good season overall. Throwing for 4,051 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions, Newton is still one of the few that surpass the 4,000-yards mark.

Both of these quarterbacks were thrown in immediately without any time to sit behind a veteran quarterback and learn. Without a year of development, these quarterbacks stepped into the NFL and had success right away.

Both of these quarterbacks had high expectations much like Mahomes coming out of the gate as well. I’m not saying that Mahomes is set to have a 4,000 passing yards season in 2018, but I’m merely pointing out that it’s possible. While it’s not been done by many “rookie” quarterbacks, it has been done. Once again, Mahomes is not a rookie quarterback.
