Kansas City Chiefs: What is the biggest challenge in 2018?
An article listing all 32 NFL teams’ biggest challenges for the 2018 season has the Kansas City Chiefs’ being finding offensive rhythm. Is this really the biggest challenge for the Chiefs?
The article stating every team’s biggest challenge was written by Russell S. Baxter of FanSided. He said that the Kansas City Chiefs‘ biggest challenge would be finding offensive rhythm, which seems a bit odd considering most think that will be their strength this season.
After all, the Chiefs are turning things over to gunslinger Patrick Mahomes, who put up outrageous numbers in college. We saw him make unbelievable throws in college, the preseason last summer, and in his lone appearance during the 2017 NFL season.
While this is basically Mahomes’ rookie season, fans are confident that he’ll be as good as advertised. The Chiefs have plenty of weapons for their new quarterback, including Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, Kareem Hunt, and they even signed Sammy Watkins to a three-year deal to add to the mix.

The point being that the Chiefs’ biggest challenge this season is probably more about their defense if anything. The defense is a question mark at this point and while the offense might not be quite the show we’re expecting it to be, finding rhythm with the type of weapons the Chiefs have on offense shouldn’t be too challenging for Patrick Mahomes.
Back to the defense, there are a lot of questions that we have no idea what the answers are. Will Eric Berry return to playing as well as he did before his Achilles injury? Will Justin Houston go back to being a legitimate pass rusher or will that continue to be an area of concern for the Chiefs? What about the secondary? Without Marcus Peters, will the Chiefs be able to do damage in the secondary or stop anyone?
When looking ahead to the 2018 season (which will be here before we know it), my concerns are definitely more about the defense than they are about the offense. Mahomes has only played in one game, but the talent surrounding him should definitely help him put up decent numbers this season
Adding a guy like Watkins will help the Chiefs in the red zone too, which is somewhere they struggled to do damage last year. A new quarterback always brings new questions, but finding offensive rhythm is hardly the biggest challenge for the Kansas City Chiefs in this upcoming season.
