Kansas City Royals could trade just about anyone at the trade deadline
The Kansas City Royals are not a good team this year and that means they’ll be selling like crazy at the trade deadline. Anyone could be shipped off at this point.
The last few years have been different for Kansas City Royals, as they’ve been in the “buy” category at the trade deadline. This year, they’ll very much be in the selling category because they’ve won just 15 games so far in two months of the season.
When looking at potential players who could be traded this summer, it’s safe to say that just about anyone could be sent off to another team. The reason for that is that the Royals aren’t going to contend for another four or five years, so any player who isn’t under contract that far out is a candidate to be traded.
Mike Moustakas and Kelvin Herrera will for sure be sent elsewhere. Moose is proving that he hasn’t skipped a beat this season and could play decent third base for a team. Herrera is doing well in the closer role and teams will absolutely pay for a legitimate closer at the deadline (see the Aroldis Chapman deal in 2016).

The players who are free agents are the obvious candidates, hence Moustakas and Herrera, but even players on longer contracts are tradable pieces. Jorge Soler has two years remaining after this season and is currently leading the Royals in batting average. Teams might bite on acquiring him.
It’ll be tougher to trade guys like Alex Gordon and Ian Kennedy due to their contracts, so those two are likely safe. Salvador Perez is an interesting thought too because he’s loved in Kansas City, but now would be the time to see what the Royals could get for him. He’s 28 years old and catchers take a toll on their body simply due to the constant squatting they do all game long.
What will be important for the Kansas City Royals at the deadline, however, is if these players who do get traded can bring in a nice haul or not. Prospects can pan out or they can fail miserably and the Royals will HAVE to hit with these prospects. Otherwise, the rebuild will be further delayed.
We still have another two months before the trade deadline gets underway, but it’s never too early to speculate about which Royals could be traded. Hopefully if the Kansas City Royals do move the fan favorites, they get a hell of a return in the process.
