Kansas City Royals: Series with Yankees brought back bad memories

The Kansas City Royals played the New York Yankees in a three-game series this past weekend and the result wasn’t the prettiest.

Not only did the Kansas City Royals lose yet another series this past weekend, but they got blown out in both of those losses. Yes, they won the Friday evening game, but Saturday and Sunday’s performances left something to be desired.

Saturday saw the Royals lose 8-3 while Sunday’s afternoon game was a 10-1 loss. Not exactly a great weekend to spend at the ball park.

Where this series really reminded Royals fans of the “good” old days, however, was the atmosphere at Kauffman Stadium. Yankees fans piled into the K this weekend and made their presence known.

Any time a Yankee did anything, whether it was hit a home run, a single, or just a hit, Yankees fans were loud. This brought Royals fans back to a time where Kauffman Stadium was ALWAYS filled with the opposing team’s fans.

When the Kansas City Royals were losing 100 games a year, fans weren’t exactly flocking to the K to see their team play. Most of the time it was the opposition’s fans filling the stands or it was at least the opposing team’s players drawing in any crowd at all.

Watching the Yankees completely dismantle both Danny Duffy and Eric Skoglund was brutal. Hearing the fans go crazy was even worse though. I attended the game on Sunday and was surrounded by Yankees fans.

Royals fans tried to drown them out with “Let’s Go Royals!” chants or simply cheering to scream louder than them, but it was a near impossible task. This won’t be the last of the opposing fan base taking over our beloved Kauffman Stadium.

More from Kansas City Royals

The Royals still have series at home against the Red Sox, plenty more against the Twins, the Cardinals, and this year they get to host the Cubs. At least with the Cubs series, it’ll be a fan base who also will be rocking blue attire.

When I was younger, the most painful time of the year was whenever the Cardinals came to town and completely took over the K. It’d be filled with red and that absolutely tore me a part. Even when the Royals were the better team in 2015, Cardinals fans still filled up the stadium and gosh was it irritating!

Losing to the Yankees this past weekend was bad enough, but having to watch/attend the game and witness all of the New York fans taking over Kauffman Stadium was even worse. Can’t say I blame Royals fans for staying home though.
