The final quarterback depth chart

Typically, when a 53-man roster comes out, a team carries three quarterbacks. A starting quarterback, a second-string, and an emergency quarterback as the third string.

So, to sum this up, I, as well as everyone else, know who the first-string quarterback will be. But who follows Mahomes, as the second and third string quarterback?

At second string, I have the 32-year old in Henne. Henne provides the veteran leadership and experience to mentor Mahomes, similar to Smith last season. Henne may not the be the most exciting player to have on the roster, and he may not be extremely talented either, but Veach made the perfect signing for the sake of his leadership qualities.

Now, I have Mahomes, and Henne as a lock to make the 53-man roster, which leaves two quarterbacks left to fit one final spot – McGloin, and Litton. To some, it may come as a surprise on who I predict makes the 53-man roster as the third string, while others see this is a no-brainer.

Quarterback number three

As my third-string quarterback, I have the rookie Litton making the cut. Which of course leaves McGloin as the odd man out. Litton’s potential easily overshadows McGloin, which makes all of the sense in the world to have him as the third string.

Litton will probably never become the starting quarterback for the Chiefs, but that does not mean he won’t ever see the field. He has the opportunity in the preseason to display his talents and make his way up to the second string in the near future.

So, to wrap this way too in-depth quarterback analysis, here is what I expect the final quarterback depth chart to look like, come sometime in September:

Quarterback Depth Chart:

  1. Patrick Mahomes II
  2. Chad Henne
  3. Chase Litton
