The Kansas City Chiefs drafted rookies have their jersey numbers for the 2018 season! Now fans can get to preordering their favorite rookie’s jersey.

Remember when the Kansas City Chiefs drafted Patrick Mahomes last year and how excited we all were to see which number he’d pick for his jersey? Well, it’s that time of year again, only this time, we’re not eagerly awaiting to see what number the quarterback is going to don because there isn’t a new drafted quarterback.

We do, however, have all six Chiefs drafted rookies’ jersey numbers, at least for the time being. Remember these can sometimes change (believe it or not, Tyreek Hill actually wore 81 before eventually switching to and settling on 10) so these aren’t necessarily set in stone just yet.

The new Chiefs will be wearing the following numbers:

Interestingly enough, rookie nose tackle Derrick Nnadi, who the Chiefs took in the third round out of Florida State, will be wearing Tamba Hali‘s old number. This sparked a debate amongst those at Arrowhead Pride on whether Hali was deserving of having his number retired or not.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Hali is certainly a future Ring of Honor inductee, but it takes a whole other kind of player to have your jersey retired. It’s also worth noting that several players have donned Tony Gonzalez‘s number 88 jersey and Gonzalez definitely had a better Chiefs career than Hali.

Anyway, as for the rest of the new guys, the other notable number is Dorian O’Daniel taking Jamaal Charles‘ old number (25), which could be a similar debate to Hali’s. I feel like jerseys in the 20s can go to several different positions though (running backs and cornerbacks mostly), so it’s more likely to get taken at some point.

To be honest, none of these rookies are big names so it’s doubtful that many Chiefs fans run out to grab one of these jerseys. Last year was different because not only did the Chiefs draft a freaking quarterback in the first round, but they also picked up Kareem Hunt, who was a position player. Those are the “sexier” jerseys to buy for sure.

Hell I remember when the Chiefs drafted Aaron Murray in 2014, people were buying his jersey and he was only a fifth round pick. He’d also go on to appear in ZERO games for the Chiefs during his time in Kansas City yet people wanted that Murray number seven jersey. I wanted to put duct tape over CASSEL (yes, I own a Matt Cassel jersey) and have it read Murray instead. Good times.

The point being that if there was a position player in this bunch, that’d probably be the only intriguing jersey to buy. Will Nnadi continue to wear Hali’s old number or will that eventually get changed? If Ross Travis could wear Tony Gonzalez’s 88 for as long as he did, then I think Nnadi will get to wear 91 as long as he wants to.

Will you buy any of the rookies’ jerseys?
