The NFL Draft is over, so of course sites are starting to put out their power rankings. Bleacher Report’s power rankings has the Kansas City Chiefs at number nine.

Whenever a key event happens during the NFL offseason, the popular thing to do these days is to release power rankings after said event happens. That’s the case with the 2018 NFL Draft, which just wrapped up this past weekend.

With the draft over, Chris Sims of Bleacher Report released his power rankings after teams added new, young talent to their rosters. The Kansas City Chiefs were ranked quite high, sitting ninth on these particular power rankings.

The blurb about the Chiefs discussed mostly how the future of the Chiefs depends on Patrick Mahomes and Sims isn’t lying. We all know that Mahomes is the key to whether the Chiefs are good for the next decade or not. If he’s good, the Chiefs will be primed for success for a long time. If Mahomes fails, however, then it’s back to the drawing board in a few years.

Here were two sentences that stood out to me in this particular blurb,

More from Kansas City Chiefs

"If the defense can take even a small step forward, the Chiefs will be extremely dangerous. With Mahomes at the helm, the offense is going to be one of the most explosive in football."

That describes the Chiefs to a tee. The offense, barring any injuries, should be on fire this year and it’ll be the defense that we’ll all be complaining about week after week. Just picture this though – What if the defense isn’t as bad as we think it’ll be? How good could the Chiefs be then?

The national pundits all seem to agree that Mahomes is going to be good and the offense will be clicking on all cylinders. It’s an exciting time for Chiefs Kingdom.

As for the rest of the rankings, the Chiefs were the highest ranked AFC West team. The Chargers came in at 12th, the Raiders 24th, and the Broncos 26th. The teams ahead of the Chiefs were the Eagles, Rams, Patriots, Jaguars, Vikings, Saints, Steelers, and Panthers. The Chiefs play four of those teams in 2018.

Even though these power rankings are meaningless even during the season itself, it’s still nice to see the Kansas City Chiefs getting the respect they deserve this offseason. They may not have had a first round pick, but they still added good talent in this draft and should be able to stay in the top ten when it comes to best teams in the league.

Do you think ninth is too high, too low, or just right for the Kansas City Chiefs right now?
