Kansas City Chiefs news surrounds the NFL Draft and if the Chiefs could end up getting into the first round or not. Is it worth it?

Somehow the NFL Draft and mock drafts aren’t quite the same when the Kansas City Chiefs don’t have a first round selection. That’s what Chiefs Kingdom is experiencing this year, but there still could be a chance that the Chiefs find their way into the first round.

Hearing the news earlier this week that the Philadelphia Eagles were interested in trading out of the first round was exciting because of course the Chiefs would be in play to grab that pick. It’d be the final pick of the first round, but it’d still be a first round pick.

The Chiefs traded out of the first round just two years ago when they ended up selecting Chris Jones in the second round. The Chiefs gambled that Jones would still be there and got more picks in the process.

  • As of now, the Chiefs have eight selections in the 2018 NFL Draft, but look for that number to change. If the Chiefs want to get into the first round, they have the ability to do so. They have a second rounder and two third rounders, so there’s definitely some negotiating that could be done.

On the other hand, the Chiefs aren’t necessarily looking to make a huge leap this year. This might be a good thing for them to have all of these picks later on, as it can help restock their team. A first round player could make an immediate impact, but the Chiefs don’t necessarily need that right now.

Why Brandin Cooks is worth more than Marcus Peters [Britt Zank, KC Kingdom]

"Peters, on the other hand, has had a rough time in both college and the pros. He has now been basically kicked off two teams; the University of Washington actually kicked him off and the Chiefs trading him away for peanuts."

NFL Draft rumors: Chiefs could trade into first round with Eagles [Matt Conner, Arrowhead Addict]

"Why would the Chiefs want to move up? Well, the primary reason would be to grab a top-tier talent on their own draft board if he happened to slip all the way to the bottom of the first round."

    More from Kansas City Chiefs

"Every year during draft season, the general manager or head coach of a team will be known to say “We’re going to draft the best available player”. Sometimes that’s a good strategy, but other times, that particular player doesn’t really fit that team’s set of needs."

Obviously it’d make the NFL Draft more exciting if the Kansas City Chiefs jumped into the first round, but if it doesn’t happen, that’s okay too. The Chiefs happily surrendered this year’s first rounder so that they could trade up and grab Patrick Mahomes last year. We’ll see in due time if he was worth it or not.

The Chiefs have the picks (and probably a few players…) to trade if they wanted to get into the first round. The question now is will they do it? If so, what will they have to give up in order to trade into round one?
