It’s been a chaotic few days for Kansas City Chiefs fans as they have been trying to process the news of Marcus Peters being traded.
We now know what Marcus Peters was traded for and it was basically a bag of peanuts and some Hot Wheels. The Kansas City Chiefs sent an All-Pro cornerback to the Los Angeles Rams for a fourth round pick this year and a second rounder next year.
No first round pick was involved and that is disappointing. The Chiefs were obviously desperate to send Peters away, but why? We may never know the answer to that question.
What we do know is that a large portion of the fan base is incredibly unhappy with the trade. I put a poll up on KC Kingdom’s Twitter account (@KCKingdomFS) and asked how fans were feeling about the trade. Note that this was before the compensation had been announced.
We still don’t know what the #Chiefs are getting in return for Marcus Peters, but as of right now, how do you feel about the trade?

As you can see, over half of the voters said they were very unhappy about the trade and that has appeared to be the consensus on Twitter and other forms of social media. The 38% who voted unsure might have felt that way due to not knowing the compensation or maybe they were still trying to process everything.

As for the ten percent who said they were glad Peters is gone, some might be surprised to see it was even that high, but I’m not. Two of the people I spoke to on Friday after the trade was announced were THRILLED that Peters was now “someone else’s problem” (their words, not mine).
One said “Yay!” when I broke the news and when I pressed on the topic, he responded with “I do not like him” (him being Peters). The other person I talked to said, “Good” when I told him about the trade. Even with the weak compensation, neither budged on their stance. They felt it was the right move for the city and for the team.
I was on the fence when the trade went down, but after seeing what the Kansas City Chiefs got in return, I think this was a terrible trade. Yes, the fact that little teams seemed to be interested in taking Peters jumps out in all of this, but the Chiefs had control of the talented corner for at least another two seasons.

Benjamin Allbright had an interesting tweet that caught my attention. It basically said that this was a decent trade considering Peters’ attitude issues and his rookie deal coming to an end. As of now, it’s tough to see it that way, but maybe someday we will be able to.
The Rams knew no one else was interested in Peters and they had Kansas City right where they wanted them. The Chiefs no longer wanted to give Peters an opportunity and were willing to do whatever it took to get him out of town. The fans have a right to be upset and hopefully they make their voices heard this offseason and during the 2018 regular season.
If you’re angry about how this all went down, show it to the organization. Don’t go to games. Don’t watch games. Don’t buy merchandise. If all the Chiefs care about is money, then less people showing up to the stadium and less individuals not paying $100 for parking might send a message that fans are tired of this crap.
If, however, you’re happy about Peters being out of town, then congrats. You got your wish. He’s gone now and we may never know why.
