The Kansas City Chiefs are finalizing a trade that would send Marcus Peters to the Los Angeles Rams. Details are still not released.

Wow! So… Happy Friday everyone?

It’s a shocking day with the word of the Kansas City Chiefs in the works of trading their top cornerback Marcus Peters to the Los Angeles Rams. Adam Schefter broke the news on Friday afternoon and Chiefs fans are all over the place with this one.

Schefter also added in another tweet that this would be a blockbuster trade. Yeah, Chiefs fans would hope so if they’re trading one of their best players with at least two years left on his contract.

This has been an up and coming story throughout the last few months, but had really resurfaced this past week when ProFootballTalk and Jason La Canfora had put the news out there. The Chiefs top personnel clearly weren’t happy with Peters’ antics and felt it was the best possible time to trade him.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

I can see both sides with this news. Yes, trading a guy with Hall of Fame numbers throughout just three years seems insane, but Peters never really appeared to be happy with the Chiefs. He got into fights with the coaching staff, threw flags (and kicked footballs) into the stands, and him not standing for the National Anthem really rubbed people the wrong way.

Marcus Peters was a game changer for the Kansas City Chiefs and this is a shocking trade. At the same time though, was it really all that shocking? The writing has been on the wall, especially after Andy Reid opted to suspend Peters for a game this past season.

My take – the Chiefs probably asked Peters if he wanted to be a part of their long-term plans and he likely said no. They then weighed their options and figured now was the absolute best time to trade him. We all know Peters grew up as a Raiders fan and while this trade doesn’t get him to Oakland, it puts him back in his home state of California.

The Kansas City Chiefs do play the Los Angeles Rams this season for what it’s worth. It’s a game that will take place in Mexico City and let’s not be surprised if Peters has a game changing play or two in that one.

So, what does everyone think of this deal? Back when I brought it up several months ago, people thought I was stupid and called me every name under the sun. Now I don’t look as stupid I guess, so there’s that.
